Numbers on the picture relate to explanations below
1. Extensive selection of feet and castor components for different purposes and needs (heights, clearances, user-weights) - we now offer 15 different standard alternative variants of castors/feet and castor bearing arrangements to most accurately meet user needs - other non-standard variants are also available.
2. Extendable castor bearers - allows pinpoint adjustment to maximise stability whilst minimising any tripping hazard having regard to castor type and width of bed arrangement, also important to co-ordinate finishings with CBL decorative panels ensuring full turining circle of castors when hidden within lowered sides
3. Enhanced working height movement range of 16.5" (42cm) The main ‘ready-reference’ / ‘easy comparison’ issue of importance when considering high-low will often concern overall floor-to-top-of-bed height when fully lowered and when fully raised, that is to say the range of high-low movement (although this may well not be the decisive factor in any given case - only proper personal assessment can determine this).
The standard movement range between lowest position and highest raised position for the ORWOODS CBL is utterly exceptional for this type of bed-lifter: at 16.5" it allows the lifter to be fitted for a lowest setting of just 10" (18" including a standard 8" depth mattress) which will rise to 26.5" (34.5" including mattress) ensuring that the unit will deliver movement that is always capable of meeting minimum safe-working height requirements for carers when extended upwards. We are not aware of any other similar type of equipment currently available that will match this range of movement (the common standard is a 12" movement range).
It is very important to understand the potential critical implication of ‘movement range’: in the last few years there has been a growing awareness of back injury caused to carers (whether relatives or employed visiting) caused by assisting bed users at fundamentally unsuitable working heights. The problem will ultimately result in prescriptive regulation, but for the time being while the matter is not formally regulated, we are finding that external care companies are starting to adopt a practice of refusing to attend individuals in personal home environments, wherever it is not possible to raise their bed to a working height which is equivalent to a standard hospital bed. The standard hospital bed with a standard issue mattress reaches 34”.
If this is or could be relevant to you, then we advise in the strongest terms that you CHECK THIS DETAIL CAREFULLY before sourcing any CBL-type equipment!
4. Linak motors with unique manual wind-down safety feature - we use only Linak and Phoenix Mecano motors in our bed lifters. Linak motors in particular are the default motor for hospital applications (if you’ve ever had a hospital stay, then you’ve most probably used a Linak motor) as they are renowned for their reliability and ultra-smooth noise-free performance - we only fit the best. Moroever, our specially made CBL exclusive specification motors are immediately compatible with optional battery back-up units and include as standard a manual over-ride wind-down facility, which allows the bed lifter to be lowered manually in the event of total equipment failure (eg main wires being accidentally severed) - this feature can represent total peace of mind when the CBL is being used in the personal home environment, countering any concern about being ‘stranded in the up position’. The ORWOODS CBL is the only homecare product of its type available today with this feature.
5. Re-designed noise & judder-free rotation bearing system - historically, CBL-style bed lifters which rely on moving parts rotating around solid steel pins have suffered the perennial problem of being vulnerable to developing persistent - and for the user very annoying - judder and creaking-noise problems which can be impossible to cure: on standard type fittings even very slight corrosion on internal non-lubricated moving tube surfaces will eventually result in friction leading to the symptoms mentioned. In response to these recognised historical industry problems, ORWOODS have completely re-designed the rotating pin bearing system to prevent such problems from occurring in the first place - another refinement which is unique to ORWOODS
6. Unique 4-strut reinforcement stability & heavy gauge metal - we are the only manufacturer of CBL-style bed lifters which include 4-strut stability in all standard sizes across the bed lifter range (all sizes except except the smallest and 'non-standard' 2'3" and 2'6" bed lifter packages - note that no-one else even offers 2'3" and 2'6" bed lifter packages). This enhanced strength provides increased core-stability of the bed lfiter apparatus in all aspects: when moving, when not-moving, and when the user on top is moving and/or changing position on or getting on to or off the bed. The increased 4-strut stability is matched with heavy gauge metal throughout - forming an anti-buckle, and anti-tear 'backbone' chassis which is designed to be extremely strong and remain problem-free for an indefinite future reaching out years ahead. Inferior products are susceptible to weld-failure and metal-tear - and we have seen both on several occasions. Our standard of specification for bed lifters ensures that this cannot happen to users of our equipment.
The ORWOODS CBL is the leader in its field. There is simply no other product currently available elsewhere which has anything like the same construction quality, component refinement and specification versatility offered by this item.
